Vice President Sport, Philippa Williams, hosted the 2017 Sport Awards on the 10th of May at the The New Continental Plymouth. These awards recognise the outstanding dedication and/or achievement through sport whether that be through a club, team or on an individual basis.

Most Improved UPSU Sports Club Award

Most improved UPSU Sports Club award is given to a club who have demonstrated great team work resulting in improved sporting performance, engagement in volunteering or fundraising, or engagement with UPSU.

Outstanding Performance Award

This is awarded to an individual or team, purely on an outstanding performance within sport.

Social Sport Champion Award

This is awarded to a team or individual who has demonstrated achievements in Intramural leagues or tournaments, volunteered to support social sport activity, therefore increasing or sustaining participation.        

  • Overall Winner – George Renwick
  • Highly Commended – Kate Eaton & Charlotte Harris

Sport in the Community Award

This award is given to an individual or group who have been involved and had a positive impact within the community. This includes coaching, engagement and fundraising within the community.

  • Overall Winner – Anna Longley
  • Highly Commended – Molly Somers

Sports Personality of the Year Award

Sports personality of the year is awarded to an individual who stands out from the crowd, with good spirit and a positive attitude towards sport at UPSU.

  • Overall Winner – Alex Balding

Team of the Year Award

This is awarded to a team who have performed outstandingly over the past year. This can include, but is not limited to winning BUCS points, medal wins, promotion, raising the profile of the club or team, demonstrating positive values and contributing to UPSU.

Club of the Year Award

Sports club of the year is awarded to a club who have demonstrated an outstanding performance, being involved in volunteering and within the community, raised money, and who have had a hugely positive impact on the student experience.

Sports Person of the Year Award

This award is dedicated to an individual who continually demonstrates a positive attitude and leadership skills. This individual could also be competition at a high level within their sport, and show huge commitment to their sport.

  • Overall Winner – Kelsey Pillage

Full Colours

Full colours are awarded to students who already hold Half Colours, except in exceptional circumstances. Full colours are awarded to students who have shown continued outstanding dedication and have made an exceptional contribution to sport during their years at university whilst also demonstrating commitment to the Students’ Union and student sport.

Half Colours

Awarded to students for their continual dedication and involvement through sport at university, whether that be as team captain, within a committee position, coaching, umpiring, driving or as a volunteer.
