Last week we, the President Team, each hosted informal ‘Faculty Mixers’ in the SU for our respective faculties. This was a casual and free event for all students in each faculty to attend, whatever stage, age or qualification you are studying. Vriti hosted the Faculty of Health mixer on Monday in the Lounge; Poppy hosted the Faculty of Science and Engineering mixer on Tuesday in the Den; and Emily hosted the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business mixer on Thursday also in the Den.

This was the first time we have run an event like this with the idea being to promote connection and community within the faculties both between the students and with the staff. We had wrist bands for the schools, ice breaker bingo cards and board games, and we were delighted to welcome staff from across the faculty into the SU to talk to you and answer all of your questions or just catch up with how you were doing. 

The goal of the event was to provide you with a social space outside of lectures and seminars to connect with other students on similar and different courses to help build a stronger student community in Plymouth. We hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the event and came away with new friends and connections that they would not have found otherwise. It was great to see so many of you getting to know one another and having meaningful conversations with staff members.

As Presidents, we enjoyed getting to chat with you about how the start of the year was going, what was working well or anything you were struggling with that we could help with. We also had the chance to explain to some of you what our role is and how we work to represent you every day. It was great to hear about your opinions on what the Presidents’ Team do and to chat to some of you about how you can get involved through being a course rep (find out more here).
