FAQs
How much is student accommodation?

The cost of your housing in Plymouth can vary greatly. It can depend on the size of the property, how many people are signing the tenancy agreement, and what other things are included in the price – for example, utility bills, parking, or access to communal facilities.

How to apply for student accommodation?

The application process will depend on whether you are renting through an agency or private landlord. Usually, a tenancy agreement will mandate a deposit of one months’ rent in advance to secure a property. Please make sure you know your rights when it comes to applying for a tenancy; as of May 2026, laws have changed to offer better protection for renters in the UK.

How does student accommodation work?

Student housing is different from most rental properties in the UK. Usually, tenancies will be agreed for a term- or year-only basis. Most start in September and finish the following Spring/Summer. You might find purpose-built housing which offers en-suite rooms or small apartments. Alternatively, you could look at a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO), which involves house-sharing with other people. Either way, these properties are designed to meet your needs and offer an affordable option during your time at University.
