Fundraiser of the Year - Winner (2022-23)

About us:

Welcome to Plymouth University's Equestrian Club! If you have a love for animals, or just want to join a family feel sports society, then give us a try. We offer lessons for all abilities in different disiplines, and you don't need your own horse!

Again this year, we have 3 BUCS teams who will compete against different universitites around the country, training weekly on Wednesdays at showjumping and dressage. If you are a beginner or just want to ride for fun, we are dedicated to providing all students with the best value riding lessons and other great opportunities such as hacks and polo.

Our new committee this year are ambitious to offer a greater variety of opportunities and more competitive BUCS teams. Most of all, to create a better united club and above all make great memories!

Socials:

We are once again able to offer in person socials which we would like to develop this year, including sober and (of course) non-sober socials so the whole club can get to know each other. Our new social secretary has lots planned, including drinks, themed nights out on a Wednesday at Walkabout, trips to Exeter Races, a Christmas meal, gymkhanas, beach rides, Dartmoor hacks and loads more!

Riding Opportunities:

For those who would like to try out for teams, we do have trials and interteams taking place (dates and further information TBC). From this, our two instructors and BUCS captain will decide the teams. If selected, you must commit to AT LEAST 2 Wednesday training sessions per month at St Leonards Equestrian Centre. Each of the 3 teams compete in the BUCS league which includes show jumping at 80cm-90cm and dressage at novice level. We also have a friendlies team which provides the opportunity to have a go at competing with your own team in a more relaxed environment.

If you are a competent rider and want to try a different equestrian sport, we offer Polo Opporutnities at Vaux Park Polo Club. Although it's a bit of a trip, the journey is always fun and definitely worth it for an opportunity you don't often get. Previously we have competed in the SUPA league, something we aim to achieve once again with a new team!

For those who have never ridden, or just want to ride for fun, we have lesson squads. The squads are grouped on ability at our Lesson Taster day during the first few weeks of term (dates and information TBC). If you didn't get on a team or don't want to compete, this is the option for you.

PLEASE NOTE - unfortunately, if you sign up to the club after we have held trials, you will not be able to ride for a team, although we will place you in an appropriate level lesson squad!
