About us:

Welcome to Plymouth University's Equestrian Club! If you have a love for animals, or just want to join a family feel sports society, then give us a try. We offer lessons for all abilities in different disciplines, and you don't need your own horse!

This year, we have 2 BUCS and 2 Friendlies teams who will compete against different universities around the country, training weekly on Wednesdays at show jumping and dressage. If you are a beginner or just want to ride for fun, we are dedicated to providing all students with the best value riding lessons and other great opportunities such as hacks.

Our new committee this year are ambitious to offer a variety of opportunities and most of all, to continue to develop this amazing club and above all make great memories!

Socials:

If your horsey or non-horsey there will be a social for you, especially with our new social memberships! We offer everything from your traditional themed Wednesday sports socials, sober socials like bowling and ice skating, days out to the races and other equestrian events! Our social secs are always looking for new ideas so do not hesitate to suggest a social.

Team Riding Opportunities:

For those who would like to try out for teams, you will ned to attend trials on the 30th September 2026 (1pm to 5pm), to attend there is a form to fill out, you can get this by messaging our socials or sending us an email. From this, our instructors, BUCS captains and Chair will decide the provisional teams. If selected, you must commit to AT LEAST 2 Wednesday training sessions per month at Newton Ferrers Equus, just before the first competition of the year, teams will be officially finalised. Each of the BUCS teams compete in the BUCS league which includes show jumping at 80cm-90cm and dressage at novice level. We also have a friendlies teams who compete in a student run league, which provides the opportunity to have a go at competing with your own team in a more relaxed environment.

PLEASE NOTE - unfortunately, if you sign up to the club after we have held trials, you will not be able to ride for a team, although we will place you in an appropriate level lesson squad!

General Riding Opportunities:

For those who have never ridden, or just want to ride for fun, we have lesson squads. The squads are grouped on ability at our Lesson Taster day during the first few weeks of term (dates and information TBC). If you didn't get on a team or don't want to compete, this is the option for you.
