Come and join the Badminton club at the University of Plymouth!
We aim to create an all-inclusive environment for all abilities, so if you've only just picked up a racket or looking for some competitive matches, everyone is welcome! Our friendly committee work on providing a relaxed and social club that gives all our members a fun and safe place to meet new people and enjoy a game of badminton. Whether you're a keen sportsman who's looking to join the team and get some practice in a few times a week, or just hoping to join a club, meet new friends and rock up for a social each week then the badminton club is for you! Our joining fee is only £35 for the whole year, with all social sessions (courts and shuttles provided) included in this membership fee. There is an additional cost for team players which covers the cost of all team matches and extra training sessions. Team kit is available to purchase and is required for team players representing UPBC.
Details on the Team Tryouts are on our Facebook page.
We hold multiple sessions for both Social and Team Players at Nancy Astor Sports Hall (on Campus) :
Monday 19:00 - 21:00 - Team Training / Matches
Wednesday BUCS Matches
Saturday 12:00 - 14:00 - Social Session
As well as social badminton play, we run a variety of social events and nights out throughout the year, this allows social and team players to get to know each other off the court! We aim to host a selection of events that cater to everyone including drinking and non-drinking events, meals out, glow in the dark badminton and hopefully joint socials with other clubs and societies along with many more!
UPBC currently has 3 Men's teams and 1 Women's teams, with all teams (and a mixed team) competing in the Plymouth and District Badminton League. Our Men's 1st team compete in the BUCS league and each year we send a squad to Sheffield to represent the University of Plymouth at the BUCS Nationals! We also aim to hold at least one charity event each year to raise money for charities voted for by our members and re-introduce our friendly tournaments for social players to try out playing in a more competitive style!
