There are multiple things that I hope to bring to the Trustee Board. Firstly, I hope to bring the perspective of a recent student, and ensure that the needs of students are central to decisions. Secondly, I hope to bring knowledge from my Education background to help inform decisions. Having completed both my Undergraduate and Masters in Education, I have developed a strong understanding of the trends within the education system, something that will be extremely beneficial to my role as a Trustee..

UPSU Presidents/Sabbatical Officers are UoP students that have either recently graduated, or are taking a break from study, and are elected annually by the student body to lead the Students' Union and work full-time representing the student body on your behalf on various issues across all areas of student life including promoting the welllbeing of students, developing support during the cost-of-living crisis, and jargon-busting academic policies.

I became a Trustee because I want to play a more active role in shaping the student experience at Plymouth. As a medical student, I have experienced the pressures and challenges of university first-hand, while my involvement in student representation, volunteering, PALS and student-led projects has given me the opportunity to see those experiences from different perspectives. I have always been someone who gets involved and tries to turn ideas into action. Becoming a Trustee felt like an opportunity to take that further and contribute to the wider direction of UPSU, ensuring students’ experiences and voices are still central to the decisions being made.

I hope to bring a broad student perspective and the practical experience I’ve gained through medical school, student representation, volunteering, and running student-led initiatives. I have worked with students, university staff, and external organisations, and have experience developing projects, managing responsibilities, and dealing with governance and risk. I am also comfortable asking questions and constructively challenging decisions when needed. Most importantly, I want to bring the perspective of someone who is still experiencing student life and understands that students have vastly different circumstances and priorities. I want to help make sure the Board stays connected to those experiences and that UPSU continues to turn student voice into meaningful action.

I want to help by giving back, utilising my experiences from across sectors as the Student Union develops our leaders and workforce of the future. The impact UPSU had when I was a student helped shape me with skills, confidence, and friends who I still rely on. During my time as an elected Student Officer I valued the ability to ask questions and make the most of the experience of Lay Trustees. I found that I experienced the numerous support mechanisms Student Unions provide, many of which are essential without students realising the impact that it has on their Student Experience.

My various roles over the years have brought together multidisciplinary teams towards a shared goal including operating aligning multiple governance structures and authorities, as well as managing cross-operational teams at major events within the UK. As UPSU provides support through many mechanisms to enhance Student Experience and Student Voice, I am able to bring guidance and experience to The Board understanding the multi-disciplinary environment.
