Hi! I'm Poppy, your President for the Faculty of Science and Engineering and I lead on student democracy and sustainability within the Presidents' Team.
I am one of the three Presidents and it is our job to represent you, the students, throughout the university. We sit on committees, attend meetings and talk to anyone and everyone who has anything to do with the student experience. As part of my role, I attended the University and Faculty Teaching and Learning Committees, Senate as well as hosting student voice forums with the school and course reps. As a team, you might see us hosting events, talking about what the Students' Union can do for you or answering emails in our office.
When it comes to academic representation, I work with the school and course reps to ensure that any issues or concerns you have are appropriately delt with by the schools and faculty. If you do not know who your course reps or school reps are, you can find them on the SU website under representation. School reps are also listed in the faculty handbook under their respective schools. I would encourage you to share all feedback with your course and school reps and make use of the feedback tools on the SU website as we can only improve if we know what changes you want to see.
I have been at the University of Plymouth for 4 years, so I know my way about a bit. Initially studying as an undergraduate in Ocean Science and Marine Conservation then progressing to a master's in Hydrography, I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to marine mapping and autonomous systems. I have loved my time as a student at the university and feel my experiences help me understand how I can make the most out of my role everyday. Outside of work, I am an equestrian and a kayaker and a part of the university scout group so when I am not in the office you can find me out with my horse, paddling down rapids or camping somewhere in the woods.
My email is always open and please say hi if you see me around campus!

My manifesto:
These are the questions I answered when I first stood for election in February 2026
What motivated you to run for a full-time representative role?
- I was motivated to run for president of science and engineering as after four years at the University, I believe there are things that could be changed to improve the student experience to better serve those that are studying here. Whether through developing the wellbeing services or through building a more connected student body; I want to help ensure that any changes made strengthen the student body through providing strong leadership and communication between the University and students
Why do you think you would be a good President?
- As a part of club and society committees over four years, I have been active within the SU community bringing forward issues and helping develop solutions including the HuddleUPSU mental‑health campaign. I have strong communication skills and a passion to see improvement within the Students Union and University. As president, I would want to connect with as many students as possible, so that I am able to best represent all students on all issues and ensure their voice shapes any changes.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
- Adventurous, outgoing and dedicated
If you could change one thing in your Faculty what would that be?
- If I could change one thing it would be improving connections between students. By having regular faculty wide events, such as networking and wellbeing events, students would be able to connect with their peers who are studying in similar fields allowing them to build larger networks outside of their course and school. I think it is important for students to share a sense of community within their faculty as it helps encourage support between students that can help carry them through university.
