World Restart a Heart Day

Wednesday 16th October was World Restart a Heart Day, a day to raise awareness and to teach as many people as possible the live saving skill of CPR.

Two of our very own societies here at UPSU, Para:Soc and the First Aid Society, gave up their day to host a stall out on the SU roof to teach University of Plymouth students and the general public how to do CPR. They aimed to "promote bystander CPR if someone was to collapse".

"The University of Plymouth First Aid Society (UP:FA) supports the St John Ambulance's vision that 'no one should die in a situation where basic first aid could have saved them'." - First Aid Society

Despite the weather the team were "out in force and with high spirits" for the whole day teaching a steady stream of people how to perform this life saving skill.

"We thought it would be a bit quiet due to it being a Wednesday and sports/societies were sporting. But as lectures finished and people started to head home, they saw the stands and came over to learn CPR. PARA:SOC would like to thank the Students' Union, the University of Plymouth and also First Aid Society for their support and the members for helping out on the day. I am sure we taught people how to do CPR, and if they knew how to do it, are now more confident to do it. We're also hoping to do more public engagement activities in the New Year - so watch this space!" - Ben Bower, Para:Soc
