How to volunteer
There are no formal interviews. Get in touch and we will invite you along to meet us at a session and see if you enjoy it. We will provide training once or twice a year. After your first 'taster' session, we will ask you to provide us with 3 forms of ID and we will process a DBS check for you, at no expense to you.
Benefits to self
You will gain a unique experience working with young people with mental health issues & disabilities, in a natural environment. Leadership, communication, reliability, compassion skills & if interested, you can get involved in fundraising & event planning to add to your CVs. You may even develop your own water skills, reading surf/weather conditions & hazards. We can provide free training in first aid, safeguarding, autism awareness & mental health awareness.
Benefits to others
Our service is completely void without volunteers. We endeavour to have 1 surf mentor for every 1 young person, and without that ratio, our surf sessions can not run. Our surf mentors and volunteer drivers are crucial to the project and it is lovely to see the friendships that blossom between other mentors and with the young people. None if this is possible without our volunteers!
