We aim to campaign for and raise awareness of mental health issues on campus. We want to get students talking about such issues and reduce the stigma that usually revolves around them. We do this by getting students involved in national, local and campus-sized campaigns and events.
We have strong links with Plymouth Mind, PsySoc and the mental health workers on campus. We have also collaborated with other societies in the past such as LGBT+, Disney Society and Baking Society.
We are proud to have won 'Best Newcomer' at the Society and Activities Awards 2016.
Joining the society means you can attend our socials, get involved by volunteering at fundraising opportunities (which looks great on a CV!), have free/reduced price to our events and more!
These will be decided throughout the year, varying between nights out and nights in! We will be putting in an effort to create sober events as we understand that non-sober events aren't for everyone.
We have run fortnightly coffee afternoons on campus in the past, so keep an eye on our Facebook/Instagram/Twitter pages for details of its return.
Our events are usually themed depending on what's going on in the world of mental health fundraising! These could include national campaigns (e.g. University Mental Health Awareness Day) to smaller events such as our coffee and chat.
Our biggest event last year was no doubt our "Meet the Guide Dogs" day where we managed to raise £1000 for Guide Dogs UK! This was a wellbeing event where students could come and have cuddles and play with guide dogs, and we are definitely keen to host this event again.
Funding raising and volunteering
We fundraise for the Student Minds charity, as well as other mental health charities. So keep an eye on our socila media for more details.
