We are University of Plymouth Big Band (UPBB)! Originally set up in 2005 by a dedicated group of students who wanted a musical outlet within the University life, Big Band has grown in popularity and musical quality. We are a very welcoming group and allow people of any musical background or standard. All you need is interest and enthusiasm. We play everything from Jazz, Swing, Funk, Latin, Contemporary and much more!
Practice is on Mondays from 1900 - 21:30. Once you are a member please sign up to join the facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/uniplymouthbigband/?fref=ts/ for any updates both weekly and in the event of a change in guidance
We have regular gigs within the University and in the wider Devon area having performed at local bars & pubs, The Student Union, University and Society Balls. We also compete against other universities in the annual South West Battle of the Big Bands!
We also enjoy fundraising for charity through gigs, collaborating with other societies as well as annual events such as Movember. This last year (2019-2020) we raised money for a range of charities including Marrow and Plymouth Raise and Give (RAG).
We look forward to hosting regular socials again this year! We have both drinking and non-drinking socials, such as pub crawls and bowling. Our socials are organised by band members and we are always open to suggestions. We usually go to our local, The James Street Vaults, after every rehearsal on Monday where Big Band members get discounts! Come and join us!
Once you’ve signed up as a member, don’t forget to join our current members page on Facebook to make sure you know what's coming up each week!
