Hi, I’m Lauren Duffy and I am running for VP Welfare. Welfare is defined as ‘the health, happiness, and fortunes of a person or group’ in the Oxford Dictionary and so I have based my manifesto around making improvements in these 3 key areas.
Health: I want to focus on mental health and campaign for quicker access to counselling services as well as creating greater awareness over the course of Mental Health Awareness week. Stress can seem part of everyday life as a student and so I want to expand and continue activities on offer to help alleviate stress and anxiety such as ‘pups & cups’ and organised daytrips to places in nature.
I would also like to see a greater awareness of the C card scheme for greater sexual health.
The continuation of the Club Hosts and more events that are alcohol free such as movie nights held at the Uni. Students could benefit also from cooking workshops.
Happiness: I understand housing can be a major issue for students. I want students to be aware of support they can receive from the advice centre to ensure housing standards are met and so dodgy landlords don’t get away with unfair treatment. Home should be a place for relaxation. There should be a database of university approved accommodation and where students can rate where they have lived.
Fortunes: Advice for grants and loans for undergraduates and those considering post graduate study. Short budgeting workshops can be held during Freshers.
