JAMES WARREN

Hi, I am James Warren and I am applying for the role of VP welfare.

Since my time at Plymouth University I have been involved within several projects and external training, giving me an educated insight into consent, sexual health and education and mental health. Alongside this I volunteered on the Sexpression Plymouth committee, and in my time on the committee we ran several awareness campaigns, even winning ‘best project’ and the last society awards evening.

With these previous experiences, I would wish to focus on consent and rape at PU, Sexual health and education, and student mental health, especially that of male students.

Consent and Rape at PU –

  • Help students understand the importance of consent, and tackle some of the issues rising with the ‘Rape Culture’ at PU
  • Bring in the ‘No means RAPE' campaign; PU currently has no anti-rape campaign. Ensuring that the campaign does not make the previous mistake of patronising students and undermining the seriousness of sexual assault and rape

Sexual Health and Education –

  • Continuing the great work already implemented this year regarding sexual health
  • Giving PU students more education around Sexual health

Student Mental Health –

  • Improving the awareness of mental health and what that really means
  • Improving the services provided by PU in order to help students struggling with their mental health
  • Bring in the ‘Boys do cry’ campaign, in order to educate student and help tackle the stigma surrounding the mental health of males
