VICKY JACKSON

Hi! I’m Vicky, I’ve been a society President, course rep, and student ambassador in my five years at Plymouth. You will probably recognise me from the UPSU bar, where I work as a Supervisor. I’m extremely passionate about student wellbeing and issues that we face. Here are my ideas:

With the busy schedule that University life brings, it’s sometimes all too easy to neglect our health. I want to increase support for personal health issues while combatting stigma throughout the University with campaigns, workshops and events. Achieved through collaboration with the UPSU Advice Centre, Medical Centre, and other student services around the city.

We are incredibly lucky at Plymouth to have such a diverse community, and this is truer than ever within the student population. I want to increase communication between students within UPSU, to celebrate equality and diversity, whilst targeting discrimination and intolerance. I want to create a new platform for discussion, in the form of a student-led Welfare Conference, including topic discussions presented by UPSU student and liberation forums, societies, workshops and networking.

Everyone’s situation is different, but I believe there is distinct lack of advice and support around economic stability at University. I want to create a comprehensive student handbook on personal finance. Including a budget planner, money-saving tips for Plymouth students, a guide to job searching here, and managing part-time work with full-time studies. Done in partnership with the Advice Centre and Career Service.

If you like the sound of my manifesto, please #VOTEVICK this week!
