Our club is all about bringing sports together, whether you are a competitive swimmer, recreational swimmer or a water polo player, this is the club for you. Our club takes part in many competitions throughout the academic year including BUCS, Varsity and club fun galas. However, due to Covid-19 and the closure of the life centre, this year we're doing things differently than before!
To keep up-to-date on what we are doing, as well as information on training sessions and how to book onto them, we recommend joining our facebook page!
Due to the lockdown rules coming into play from November 5th, our training will currently be suspended!
Swimmers will need, hat, goggles, swimming costume, bottle of water and optional kick board, pool buoy.
The first swimming session will just be sorting people in to lanes nothing to strenuous after the long summer.
Water polo players and people wanting to give water polo a try will need, hat, goggles, swimming costume, bottle of water
A lot of people have never tried polo so we will take it easy see if it is something you would like to be a part of. Meet the team and get to grips with some of the rules.
We have 2 training sessions a week; throughout the year, for both swimming and water polo where the captains and experienced members of the club help run planned sessions.
Training sessions will be run on a 2 week alternating rota:
Our sessions are:
Thursdays at Plympton Pool 9-9:45
Sundays at Plymouth College 8-9:30
As of this year we will be starting land training for all members, ran in groups of 6 with 1 'coach' to 5 'students', and the timings and location of these will be released soon!
We like to carry out regular socials (normally with a theme), once every week in first term and once everyother week after that. Socials will all be held online this year, and our social secretaries are working to make these as fun as posisble! We will also be bringing in small social groups, compliant with government guidelines, to give people to chance to meet in-person!
Due to Covid-19, competitions are a little different this year. In place of Short course BUCS, our captains will be organising in-club galas, as well as friendlies with other local universities so there will still be a chance to compete! Until futher information is given, we will still intend on attending Long course and Team Champs, both great weekends of racing not to be missed!
Water polo also takes part in BUCS competitions, putting forward both male and female teams. Again, due to Covid-19 things are slightly different so more information will be given out soon on the official BUCS league- but our captains are planning many friendly matches. If you want any details or have any questions about competitive water polo speak to the male and female captains (Alex Sanger-Anderson and Megan Kirwin).
Water polo compete in Varsity, a competition between Plymouth University and Plymouth Marjon! As a club we look to carry out as many charity fundraising events as possible. Members will have a chance to get involved with smaller fundraising events like bakesales and charity fun galas. We welcome any fun fundraising ideas for the year ahead.
We look forward to meeting everyone!
