University of Plymouth Cricket Club (UPCC) prides itself in creating a welcoming environment to all players no matter the ability, experience, gender and age. Although we are not the biggest club at the university we are always growing especially with the introduction of the women’s section a few years ago, we are aiming to continue to grow! UPCC offers a great opportunity to learn and improve skills with indoor training which happens twice a week all year around, two indoor teams playing in local leagues, playing all winter and social events all year round! We also have a girls side of UPCC which has grown and have had more opportunities to enter teams into indoor leagues, as well as being able to play some outdoor cricket. We encourage all abilities to give it a go, from those who have never played before to learn a new sport and to have fun, to those who want to play competitively in BUCS.
Throughout the year we have plenty of social events where we go out as a club and have a few drinks. They are a big part of all clubs and societies and the cricket socials are up there with the best! We offer socials to integrate you as part of the club from the word go, as well as joint socials with other societies, (last years featured the pole dancing and cheerleading societies) and fancy dress! All the socials are great fun and will provide endless hilarious memories! Our social sec from last year, Sam has this to say "Being a part of UPCC made my first year. I am moving out of halls and into a house with three other members of the club and that's down to the friendships I have made through the club."
We compete against other university teams in the BUCS Outdoor League (3rd term). We have two teams which represents us in the outdoor league which gives plenty of opportunities for everyone to play. Last year our 2's got promoted which means we have one of the biggest games in the clubs history. 1s v 2s! We also play against Marjons (arch rivals) in the annual Varsity game – which is always a fantastic evening! We also provide the chance to play in a competitive inter mural indoor league as well as having our own 11-a-side football team that participates against other Plymouth University teams in a league. We hold a TOUR in 2016, UPCC went on tour to Malia! This year we will be looking to do this again. Speak to anyone who went on tour and I can ensure that nobody has a bad word to say about it (even the freshers) and you will be gutted to miss out. Everyone is welcome as long as you are prepared to have a good time and have a couple of drinks.
