Cricket

About

We would like to warmly welcome you to the University of Plymouth Cricket Club (UPCC), representing the world’s second-most watched sport!

At UPCC, we take pride in creating an inclusive, safe and friendly cricketing environment which welcomes players of all abilities and backgrounds. We offer plenty of cricket throughout the year, from the winter indoor league to the outdoor summer BUCS, we host some of campuses' best student social nights weekly, committed to aiding various charities, and running some amazing events throughout the year.

We are the club to be at if you love playing cricket, whilst also having a bit of fun in between!

Cricket

Indoors:

  • Training: 1 men’s session (Tuesday) and 1 ladies’ session (Thursday) per week from September to April.

  • League: 3 teams (2 men, 1 ladies) competing every Sunday from September to March.

  • BUCS: 2 teams (1 men, 1 ladies). Dates TBC.

Outdoors:

  •  Training: 1 men’s session and 1 ladies’ session (TBC) starting from April.

  • BUCS: 1 team (men) from April-May.

  • Matches: men’s team and ladies’ team to have their own respective friendlies starting late March/April.

  • Varsity (TBC)

Our cricketing teams have enjoyed many successes over the years, with both men’s first and second team winning their respective indoor leagues in the 24/25 season.

In the same season, our men’s first team scored the record of the highest runs in BUCS history as we put up 552 against Uni of Southampton 3s in a 438-run win. In the same game, our very own Shalok Gangaktar set another BUCS record for the highest number of runs scored by an individual player with 224.

Our women’s section has increasingly become bigger and with them entering a mixed league, the extra competitiveness has proven beneficial.

Taster Sessions

We offer taster sessions for both the men and women and invite players of all abilities, new or experienced, to come along and join the fun! (details TBC)

Socials

We host weekly themed socials every Wednesday night with the occasional special Saturday social. As mentioned before, we run some of the university’s best socials from Pub Cricket to Jungle Juice! We also occasionally join forces with other societies to form massive socials!

We also will host sober socials like quizzes, bowling and trips to the Hoe.

Our socials are a fantastic way of getting to know your peers a bit more, making new friends and having lots of fun so we would love for you all come along!

Events

Throughout the year, we have various events to accompany our socials.

  • Winter/Summer Dinner: At Winter we host a Christmas Dinner to celebrate the festive season and is a wonderful way to round off the first semester. In the Summer, we have an end-of-year dinner and awards night where we celebrate the successes of the year in one final boozy blowout for the year!

  • Charity: This year, we will look to run three charities events to raise as much money for our chosen charities (TBC). In November 2025, we raised just shy of £1000 for Movember UK when we took part in a 90-minute walk from Plympton CC to Plymouth College in aid of suicide prevention and awareness.

  • Varsity: Whilst we have not had our own Varsity for a long time, we are committed and driven to make this happen this year. It has the potential be one of the university’s most popular events and will celebrate the wonderful sport we all love.

  • Tour: We run a yearly tour abroad to have a break from the stresses of university life and enjoy a beer or two in the sun! (previous destinations include Albufeira  🇵🇹, Split  🇭🇷, and Lloret de Marr 🇪🇸)

To summarise, UPCC is so much more than just a cricket club. Whether you're a seasoned all-rounder or have never picked up a bat in your life, there's a place for you here. From competitive BUCS and league cricket to legendary socials, charity fundraising, dinners, and an unforgettable end-of-year tour, we offer a complete uni experience built around the sport we love.

Be sure to come along to our stall at the Freshers Fair on Wednesday 23rd September 2026 so you can meet the members of our club and see what we’re all about!
