UPCC prides itself in creating a welcoming and friendly environment to all players, no matter their ability, experience, gender or age. Although we are not the biggest club at the University, we are always growing and expanding; especially with the ever more popular Ladies’ section. We offer a fantastic opportunity for anyone to learn and improve their skills with indoor training twice a week. UPCC offers a great opportunity to learn and improve skills with indoor training twice a week all year around, two Men's and a Ladies indoor team playing in local leagues, playing all winter and social events all year round! We encourage all abilities to give it a go, from those who have never played before to learn a new sport and to have fun, to those who want to play competitively in BUCS.
Throughout the year we have plenty of social events where we go out as a club and have a few (too many) drinks. They are a big part of all clubs and societies and the cricket socials are up there with the best! We offer socials to integrate you as part of the club from the word go, as well as joint socials with other societies, (in the past these have featured the pole dancing and cheerleading societies) and plenty of fancy dress! If there's one thing you can say about UPCC, we do love a dress up. All the socials are great fun and will provide endless hilarious memories! This year's social sec, Brad, has this to say "Being a part of UPCC really made my first year the best year of my life so far. It helped me to make the best memories (that I can remember) and I made the best mates with the club. Without a doubt the best thing I've done was joining UPCC despite the fact I'm pretty dreadful at cricket".
As a club, we had a varying levels of success with our cricket in both BUCS and local leagues. However, one thing that is always guaranteed in this club, we know how to have fun and and how to enjoy a good piss up after games aswell. At the club, we value our off field abilities just as much as our on field ones. However, that’s not to say that we don’t take our cricket very seriously and have high ambitions and expectations of ourselves. As well as offering cricket in the Spring and Summer time, there is ample cricket available to both the Men and Ladies during the rainy season. We enter two teams into the Men’s indoor cricket league and one into the Ladies’ league. This six-a-side competition pitches all of our teams up against local cricket teams from the Plymouth area. There is also a cup competition that runs alongside the league, so chances for success are up for grabs from the get go.
As well as Cricketing events, we regularly have club days that include bingo and Tenpin Bowling. Also, last year we started up a 5-a-side football team that plays in a student league at the local Goals facility. This proved to be a good opportunity for some of the lads to keep up fitness levels, beneficial to some more than others. We will be looking to have at least one UPCCFC side up and running again this year.
Throughout the year, we have plenty of loose socials where we drink lots. Thanks to sponsorship from some of the best clubs in Plymouth, our midweek socials are one of the best nights out. We love to do themed nights out including fancy dress and our own spin on Pub Golf, aptly named: Pub Cricket. Ask anyone already at the club, UPCC knows how to give you the best nights out, so don’t miss out!
Finally, this year we will be looking to operate a tour to somewhere sunny and that involves zero cricket whatsoever. Previous tours have been to Malia and Kavos etc., with Ayia Napa and Sunny Beach on the cards for this year.
