Welcome to the University of Plymouth Lifting Club!
We are a friendly, supportive, and inclusive community for students interested in strength training, regardless of experience level. Whether you’re completely new to the gym, training recreationally, or aiming to compete, the club provides a welcoming space to learn, improve, and train alongside others.
Our sessions focus on safe and effective strength training, with an emphasis on proper technique, progressive development, and injury prevention. Members are supported in building confidence under the bar while training in a positive and encouraging environment.
For those interested in competition, the club plans to take teams to both British Weightlifting and British Powerlifting BUCS events, offering members the opportunity to gain competitive experience while being supported by the club.
Alongside regular training, we aim to foster a strong social atmosphere, helping members build friendships and feel part of a community both inside and outside the gym.
Subject to member interest, we also plan to offer club programming for both Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting, providing structured guidance for anyone looking to try these disciplines or progress further in them.
All University of Plymouth students are welcome; no prior experience is required.
Community & Socials
Alongside regular training sessions, the club runs a variety of social and community-focused activities designed to help members connect and feel part of the society. These include weekly group gym meet-ups, visits to other gyms, casual pub meet-ups, and potentially relaxed events such as beach visits and barbecues, closer to the summer.
We also aim to collaborate with other university societies, offering opportunities for members to meet students from across the university and take part in joint events. All social activities are optional and are intended to be inclusive, relaxed, and welcoming to members of all backgrounds.
