Model United Nations is an educational tool that allows those who are interested in diplomacy, international affairs, charity, education, and everything else that could fall under the banner of the United Nations, to develop their knowledge of current world affairs, public speaking, and negotiation through participation in simulations of diplomatic conferences and committee meetings of international organisations. This most commonly takes the format of different UN bodies. However, you can also use other international bodies such as: The African Union, UNASUR, historical or fictional situations, or the EU parliament.
In essence it is a role-playing activity in which society members are transformed into diplomats in order to tackle political issues of international importance. Our aim is to try and tackle a new issue every week, ranging from the threats facing the Antarctica treaty, the political situation in Cyprus to the Syrian War and the European Refuge crisis.
The current aim is to have a simulation meeting every other week, a monthly crisis meeting, as well as regular socials, catering for both those who enjoy the partaking of alcohol and those that do not. As well as this, in the future we hope to be able to send delegates to national and international MUN (Model United Nations) conferences, as well as the chance to attend workshops on diplomacy related topics and general politics and current international topics that currently aren’t in the main stream news. We also hope to create an effective environment for networking, as we hope to partner and have relations with UN youth associated groups, as well as individuals in the world of politics, law, diplomacy and human rights.
We aim to hold socials at least once a month.
We aim to hold events in the future and will let you know throughout the coming year.
