About
Model United Nations is an educational tool that allows those who are interested in diplomacy, international affairs, charity, education, and everything else that could fall under the banner of the United Nations, to develop knowledge of current world affairs, public speaking, and negotiation through participation. This would be done in simulations of diplomatic conferences and committee meetings. This most commonly takes the format of different UN bodies. However, other international bodies can also be used such as The African Union, UNASUR, historical or fictional situations, or the EU parliament.
What We Do - Model UN (MUN)
In essence, it is a role-playing activity in which society members are transformed into diplomats in order to tackle political issues of international importance. Our aim is to try and tackle a new issue every week, ranging from the threats facing the Antarctica treaty, the political situation in Cyprus to the Syrian War and the European Refugee crisis.
Other Bits
We've raised money in the year 2019/20 for the Shekinah Mission (a rehabilitation charity in Plymouth). We aim to continue fundraising throughout 2020/21 for a charity chosen by our members, through virtual distance competitions, cook-offs, and more!
We aim to attend conferences with other MUN Societies across the country and work with colleges in Devon and Cornwall.
