Welcome to Plymouth Ukulele Society. Whether you are a seasoned ukulele pro or are looking to learn an instrument for the first time, this is the society for you. We are mixed ability group teaching everything from absolute beginners to fingerpicking techniques and instrumentals. Besides the teaching, we also run weekly jam sessions to relax and practise playing as a group.
We meet weekly on Wednesdays in Rolle 018 & 006 at 7 until 9pm. The first hour is teaching, where the group will (usually) be split between advanced, intermediate and beginner sessions. After the lesson, we re-group in Rolle 018 and jam.
We wouldn’t be a University society without socials. We have two socials per month, one drinking and one non-drinking. As a taste of what is coming up this year we have our traditional Hawaiian social (You had me at Aloha!), Valentine’s Day Lonely Hearts' Quiz and Shrek Spectacular. (Fun fact: the entire Shrek soundtrack is playable on the Ukulele)
The 2019/20 Committee are determined to bring Uke to the people of Plymouth, whether they like it or not. So, this year we are boosting our number of performances. These are optional for members, but it is a fantastic experience. In the past we have performed at the Societies awards evening, The National Marine Aquarium and at the dance society winter showcase.
If you are interested in seeing what we do come along. We run a Give it a go session on the first of each month to try before you buy, so why not come along?
