Welcome to Plymouth Ukulele society. Whether you are a seasoned ukulele pro or are looking to learn an instrument for the first time this is the society for you. We are mixed ability group teaching everything from absolute beginners to fingerpicking techniques and instrumentals. Besides the teaching we also run weekly jam sessions to relax and practice playing as a group.
We meet weekly on Wednesdays in Rolle 018 & 114 at 7pm through till 9. The first hour is teaching, where the group will (usually) be split between advanced and beginner sessions. After the lesson we regroup in Rolle 018 and jam.
We wouldn’t be a University society without socials. We have two socials per month, one drinking and one non-drinking. As a taste of what is coming up this year we have our traditional Hawaiian social, Valentine’s Day lonely hearts quiz and Shrek Spectacular. (Fun fact: the entire Shrek soundtrack is playable on the Ukulele)
The 2018/19 Committee are determined to bring Uke to the people of Plymouth, whether they like it or not. So, this year we are boosting our number of performances. These are optional for members, but it is a fantastic experience. In the past we have performed at the Societies awards evening, The National Marine Aquarium and at the dance society winter showcase.
If you are interested seeing what we do come along. The first Wednesday of each month we run a Give it a go sessions to try before you buy.
