Who we are

The University of Plymouth Labour Society (UPLS) is the official UPSU home for students who support the Labour Party. We work both on and off-campus to bring about positive changes for students and the wider community, by campaigning on campus, locally, and nationally.

Our society works to provide members with an exciting route into politics, and a range of opportunities to engage with local politicians and national campaigns so that they can play a part in changing Plymouth, Britain and the World. We also offer a space for left-wing Labour-supporting students to meet and discuss politics, and a way for all students to interact with politics in a way they may not have before.

Events and Socials

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, keeping our members safe and well is of the utmost importance. All of the following events will take place according to current government guidance, or via Zoom.

  • Pints and Politics - An evening set aside in a 'pub' to meet and have a chat about politics, university and general life
  • Pizza and Politics - Similar to Pints and Politics, but with Pizza!
  • Society Policy Debates - Sometimes disagree about policy. These events are the opportunity to have your voice heard by other Labour Supporters
  • Talks and meetings with Labour MPs, MEPs and Cllrs, and candidates.
  • Talks and information sessions with other groups - Such as trade unions and the Co-operative Party (Labour's Sister Party)
  • Student-led campaigning - both on and off-campus
