Welcome to the University Of Plymouth Nursing Society 2023!

ABOUT US! 

We are a student-led society created to support you throughout your Nursing Course. We aim to have a fun-packed year with regular drinking and sober socials! 

As you may know the Nursing Course has had a blended approach with a lot of online teaching. As a committee we have all experienced difficulty making and maintaining friendships on the course as a result of this. We want to be as social as possible and support you in building bonds that will last a lifetime! 

PLANS FOR THE YEAR!

We are hard at work putting together socials throughout the year.

We are aiming to have regular socials every month, one drinking based, one sober and a well-being day once a month. The activities of these will vary month to month. 

For the academic side of things, we will be hosting guest speakers throughout the year to talk about specialist topics. These will be free to members as they will be included in your membership but we welcome anyone interested to join the talks for a small fee. 

Well-being meetings once a month will be a safe place for us to answer questions you may have, make friends and find support.

We are currently sponsored by Walkabout Wednesdays, meaning they can support our plans with tech and personnel support, as well as provide us with a bit of financial sponsorship to help get the exciting bits planned! We're also sponsored by Boston Tea Party this year, meaning we'll have a nice location to host meals and sober socials, as well as giving society members a discount in store. This year we are working with Lounge to showcase all of our events to members and have an easy to use location to talk with members. We're also lucky to be sponsored by Twist Board Game Cafe, meaning members can receive student prices everyday of the week with their sponsored student card! 

MEET THE COMMITTEE! 

CHAIR - TRINITY LONG (she/her)

Hi everyone! I'm Trinity (she/her) a third year Adult using Student and a chair of NurSoc for 2023/2024. Trinity's goal for this year is to learn sign language and she's interested in stroke and general medicine after her degree. 

SECRETARY - ELENA HANCOCK (she/they/he)

Hi! I’m Elena, I'm your secretary this year! I'm a 3rd year adult nursing student who wants to study in diabetic research. My bucket list for this year is to eat lots of delicious food in Italy. My pronouns are she/they/he and I am non-binary. 

TREASURER - RUTH KEARNS SMITH (she/her)

Hi, I'm Ruth, a first year MNurs Adult and Child Health student. After my degree I want to work in emergency or pre hospital care! 

HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER - GILLIAN DELA CRUZ (she/her)

Hi, I'm Gillian. I'm your health and safety officer! I'm a second year student nurse who wants to do oncology when I graduate. This year Gillian would like to learn a new language. 

SOCIAL SECRETARY - CAROLINE BROWN (she/her)

Hi, I'm Caroline and the Social Sec for NurSoc this year. I'm a third year adult nursing student who will be working in hospice care when I finish. I want to bring educational and sober events to the society this year and create a welcoming and safe environment for all of our members.

WELL-BEING OFFICER - MOLLY JONES (she/her)

Hi, I'm Molly. I'm a second year mental health student. After my degree I'd like to work in On Set Welfare!
