The Anime society is for anyone who is interested in anime or manga. Whether you are an experienced anime fan or someone who has only just started, there will sure to be something for everyone. This is a great chance to meet like minded people, and everyone is welcome. All our events and updates are posted to our Facebook.
Our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/UOPAnimeSoc/
Every Tuesday or Thursday (alternating each week) we come together to watch 4 episodes each of 2 anime voted for by the society. Before each showing a poll is put up on the FaceBook page allowing members to vote for which anime they'd like to watch. The anime we show is usually based around that week's theme. For example: Comedy, Film Night, Cooking, Sci-Fi, Mech, etc. These socials are usually held in the lecture theatres in Roland Levinsky or Babbage.
On top of our weekly showings we do other events throughout the year, these include:
Quizzes: The quiz is one of our most popular events, with all of its questions based on a large variety of anime. Members are put into teams randomly and then compete in order to win Amazon vouchers. The most popular section is the audio round, where teams must guess the anime from hearing its theme.
Gunpla: In this event we build Gundam model kits, these kits snap together and don't require glue or paint. Tools are provided and no prior knowledge is needed, as you will be taught what to do by one of our experienced comity members.
Meals: Going out to one of the many Japanese restaurants in Plymouth is an anime society tradition. Usually at the start and end of a term, but also at other times, we go as a group to a local Japanese restaurant and have a nice meal together.
Drinking: Drinking socials are a great way for our members to get to know each other betters. We usually meet up at the university and then head to a few bars and get some drinks together. After that we see where the night takes us.
Devcon: This is a Sci-Fi, Video Game, and Manga convention based in Plymouth, and is only a 10 minute walk away from the University Campus. It has cosplay, stalls and special guests. We will meet up at the University and then head down to the Plymouth Guildhall together.
MCM: By far our most ambitious event is going to MCM in London. MCM is a huge convention about all geeky things. MCM this year takes place on the 26-28th May. We will be getting a coach up there together. The cost of travel will be paid for by the society, and accommodation will be subsidised. You will have to pay for your own ticket and food.
Joint Socials: Coming together with a another society is a great chance to meet new people. Occasionaly we will do events with other societies such as PokeSoc and GeekSoc. These could include watching films, video game nights, etc.
