LGBT+ is Plymouth University’s society dedicated to not only supporting and representing students who are part of the LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and all other sexualities & gender identities) community, but to empower them to be themselves, and to be proud.

(N.B. All students signing up need to select the 'LGBT+ Standard Membership' to join the society. Please do not select the 'LGBT+ Committee Membership' as that is for the committee only and will only complicate the process of having to refund those who do to then be able to buy standard membership. Who We Are:

We pride ourselves on being absolutely inclusive of anyone and everyone who wants to join, and past members have commented on the society being integral to helping them settle in at University, and meeting new friends in a safe environment. 

Our drive as a society is to represent and support all our members, and stand up for the rights of LGBT+ people both within the university as well as nationally. We work closely with a number of local and national organisations and help to support campaigns and events. As in previous years, we hope to continue our support network across the University as well as within the Students Union.

As a society, we aim to host fortnightly socials open to our members (both drinking and non-drinking), regular awareness events, workshops and campaigns on relevant LGBT+ topics, and our annual LGBT+ Pride on Campus. The events have been a huge success with charities, market stalls, local music acts and headliners such as Lucy Spraggan as well as some big names in drag! Pride on Campus 2019, in memory of Mel Joyner (former Director of Student Services), was our biggest success to date with an amazing drag and queerlesque show in the evening, a number of local organisations showcasing their work for the community as w well as sponsored sporting events bringing everyone together and raising almost £1500 for charities! In 2020, during COVID-19 we transitioned Pride on Campus to a virtual, online event — check out our social media pages for what we got up to!

Our members have access to a private Facebook page over which the committee will keep you updated on the latest socials, events and campaigns for your involvement. The society is always keen to promote the members ideas and so we will be happy to work with you to create specific events if that is preferred.

IMPORTANT - Sign ups open during the Freshers period in September, but you can join at any point in the academic year! Once you've signed up, check your university email and you will receive our welcome email in due course. This will explain how to be added into our private members only Facebook page, where we post all our socials, events and campaigns, so make sure you don’t miss out!
