NurSoc
Welcome to the University Of Plymouth Nursing Society 2022!
About US
We are a student-led society created to support you throughout your Nursing Course. We aim to have a fun-packed year with regular drinking and sober socials!
As you may know the Nursing Course has a blended approach with a lot of online teaching. As a committee we have all experienced difficulty making and maintaining friendships on the course as a result of this. We want to be as social as possible and support you in building bonds that will last a lifetime!
PLANS FOR THE YEAR
We are hard at work putting together socials throughout the year. We are aiming to do 3 big meals throughout the year (welcome, christmas and end of year). The tickets for the Welcome Meal are currently live and available to purchase for our members.
We are aiming to have regular themed Walkabout Wednesdays. If you're new to Plymouth, Walkabout Wednesdays is a student night at Walkabout (with cheap drinks). They’re a lot of fun and we recommend you attend at least one with us this year!
Sober Socials are also incoming! We are yet to finalise plans for many of these but we keep you updated. Keep your eyes on our social media accounts!
For the academic side of things. We are in the process of securing room bookings on campus close to our academic deadlines. These will be very relaxed with snacks!
As a result of the nursing course being online, making friends is that little bit harder. Attend these socials if you have questions and we will try our best to support you!
Finally Merch!! We are looking to get Nursoc hoodies and other goodies available to you! If there is something you would like, send us a message and we will see what we can do.
SPONSORSHIPS
We are currently sponsored by Roundabout. Roundabout is a stonegate pub located at the bottom of North Hill. Being sponsored by roundabout means members of the nursing society can get cheaper drinks! As a society we also get use of their function rooms which we will be using regularly!
MEET THE COMMITTEE
CHAIR - CHLOE GLIDDON
Hey, I’m Chloe. I am a 3rd Year Adult Nursing student. I am so excited to meet old and new faces this year on the socials. My favourite placement has been respiratory medicine. Upon qualification I’d like to work in gynaecology or general practice or maybe do a masters? The options are limitless! My favourite drink is a mojito or strong coffees when assignments are due. I love paddle boarding and being by the sea. I’m super excited to meet you all soon!
VICE CHAIR - EMMA TURNER
Hi I’m Emma and I’m your Vice Chair! I am a mature student with 4 children and I have an interest in General Practice Nursing. I’m teetotal and looking and looking forward to some socials this year alongside getting involved with fundraising and educational events. My most recent placement was Respiratory Medicine which I absolutely loved but I have an extensive background in Midwifery and teaching adults. I’m always looking to help others and help you get the most out of your university experience so if you need anything, please say Hi and we can have a chat.
SECRETARY - ELENA HANCOCK
Hi! I’m Elena, I’m a second year nursing student who's got an interest in research, specifically in diabetes and dementia. I’m from Kent but am loving it down in Plymouth! I’m interested in pursuing a Master’s in research upon graduation. I love a good coffee or study session and am always happy to meet up. I also really love cooking, reading, and learning languages.
SAFETY OFFICERS - SOPHIE BROCKWAY & ABIGAIL BEADLE
Hi lovely people my name is Sophie and I’m a third year adult nursing student and one of the health and safety secretaries! I’d love to end up in CCU, ICU or A&E as I love a fast paced environment, I work a lot of NHSP so any questions about that or the hospital please fire away! I‘ve only lived in Plymouth for a couple of years but I love being by the sea and going for walks/swims. I love dogs! So if anyones ever up for a dog walk please let me know as my little pooch is back home
Hiya! My name is Abi, I am a final year nursing student in the adult field and one of the health and safety officers! When I qualify I'm thinking of working in ED or doing practice nursing, though I am currently doing my placement with sexual health and contraception and it is currently making me think more of this as a future possibility as I love it! I'm so excited to be a part of Nursoc and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
SOCIAL SECRETARY - ALICE COVE
Hey, I’m Alice, a second year student studying adult nursing and I’m the social sec for this year! My most recent placement was elective and trauma orthopaedics. My interests are ICU and post-operative recovery nursing. However, I also like the idea of general practice nursing too. The options are limitless! I’m looking forward to organising some brilliant and memorable social events this year. Hope to see lots of you soon and good luck to everyone!
FUNDRAISING AND PR - EVE MORLEY
Hey I’m Eve and I am the fundraiser and PR member of Nursoc alongside being a senior PALs leader and student ambassador, so no doubt I’ll see a lot of you in and around the university throughout the year! My favourite placements have been Minor Injuries Units and Continuing Healthcare. As a veteran of the Royal Navy I have a heavy passion for veterans and service members healthcare and wellbeing. I am also a senior PALs leader and Student ambassador, which comes with a wealth of tips, tricks and signposting for whoever may need it. As a mum of a 6 year old I’m always on hand to advise on student/parent issues and troubleshooting, whether it be academically, personally or financially as I know just how hard it can be! I look forward to working and meeting with you all over the next year!
WELL-BEING OFFICER - HOLLY SCHOFIELD
Hi I’m Holly, final year adult nursing student and super excited to be joining the NurSoc committee this year! My favourite placement I’ve had is Neuro ICU, followed by colorectal surgery. I have an interest in working in critical care and research when I qualify. Fun Fact: I’ve already got a degree in psychology so I have been a student for 7 years and I spend my free time doing cheerleading.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!
