Student Elections: What is a School Rep?

As a School Rep, you are at the centre of the academic representation system within your school. You support the Course Reps and assist in progressing feedback from programme to school level. 

School Reps meet with their Faculty Lead and the current VP Education at UPSU, to progress any feedback from students to the Faculty or University through the appropriate channels.


Commitment and duties:

This position requires an average commitment of 10 hours per month, this is what you'll be spending that time doing: 

  • The School Rep is the representative link between Course Reps in your School, the University and UPSU. You will be expected to proactively engage with the student body and collate any feedback relating to the academic experience of students. You will then present student feedback at relevant university and union meetings in a constructive and professional way. 

  • Key meetings will include Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) Programme Committees and the Union Council. You may also be required to attend higher-level university meetings such as School and Faculty Teaching and Learning Quality Committees or other relevant role related subcommittees. 

  • Once you have attended these meetings you will need to communicate important information and outcomes back to the student body in your School. You will be expected to maintain a close relationship with other elected representatives, union and university staff who will support you to develop and progress your manifesto points.
