The University of Plymouth Students’ Union is delighted to announce the appointment of Sarah Gibson as the new Chief Executive Officer.
Sarah is joining us from her role as the Waterfront Manager and Chief Executive of the Plymouth’s Waterfront Business Improvement District (BID) since 2010 and overseen the delivery of more than seventy projects that helped to transform the city’s waterfront areas. She brings with her a wealth of experience and a passion for the city that will support the strategic aims of the organisation. Sarah will be working closely with representatives and staff to continue to deliver the union strategy along with shaping the future of the organisation.
“On behalf of the Sabbatical Officer Team and UPSU Trustee Board, we are thrilled to welcome Sarah to the Students’ Union. Sarah impressed student and staff panels with her drive and enthusiasm for partnership working, supporting change, and developing a dynamic Students’ Union. I believe that Sarah will continue to build on our success as a Students’ Union!”
Tilda Fraser, UPSU President 2019-20
“I’m very excited about my new role with the UPSU and am looking forward to working with the energetic staff team to support the goals of their enthusiastic and highly talented students to build on their national successes. Centred in Plymouth with campuses across Devon and Cornwall, there are fantastic opportunities for the Students’ Union and the University and I’m very much looking forward to taking up the challenge.”
“After 22 years at UPSU, the last 6 as CEO, I am very sad to be leaving such a great organisation, one that has amazing staff, volunteers and trustees and one that really makes a difference; helping our students have such a positive student experience here at the University of Plymouth. I am so lucky and proud to have had the opportunity to work with many fantastic Sabbatical Officers, staff and university colleagues over the years for which I am thankful and have enjoyed immensely.
I am delighted that Sarah has been appointed as my successor and wish both her and UPSU all the success for the future.”
Gina Connelly, UPSU CEO 2013-20
