Volunteer Spotlight: Rebecca Metcalf

Rebecca Metcalf

Student Led Volunteering Project Leader 2018 - 19

"Volunteering at Dartmoor Zoological Park with the Discovery and Learning team was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which involved me engaging with the public, carrying out animal husbandry as well as talks on the animals. This massively improved upon my confidence and presentation skills. I've always loved animals and thought this would be a great opportunity to not only work with animals but to also improve upon many important skills such as teamwork and communication.

Since leaving Plymouth, I have really missed volunteering at the zoo and am now looking to pursue education in a setting such as a zoo or aquarium as a potential career.

I would encourage everyone to get involved in volunteering, not only does it improve on many important skills, but you also meet lots of new people and most importantly have lots of fun."
