On the 18th-20th October the SU Surf Club took part in the National BUCS Surf Championships at Fistral Beach, Newquay. It is the largest surf competition in Europe with over 350 student competitors. The event is run in partnership with Surfing England and offers a range of levels of competition depending on experience.

Plymouth took the gold for the Women's Team Event, a silver for Jaide Lowe for the Women's Individual Event and a bronze for the Men's Team Event.

Round 1 on Saturday saw everyone make it through to the quarterfinals and despite the terrible conditions we had the women’s and men’s team both place upon the podium! The women- Jaide Lowe, Amelia Hewitson, Lani Ashford, Ruby Wyborn, maintained their winning streak and took gold for a third consecutive year.  The men’s team- Jack Gregorius, Jay Clayton, Iñigo Aguilera, took the bronze for the first time in many years.

Quotes from the weekend:

What an epic weekend!! UPSC did Plymouth proud, competing at BUCS down in Newquay. Huge thanks to everyone who was there to support our team!

Congratulations to everyone involved. Individually, everyone did outstanding and raised the bar another level. Big shout out to Jaide Lowe who just missed out on the gold in the final few seconds by nothing more than a 0.5, taking home the silver once again.

Thank you to everyone that made the weekend what it was, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Let the countdown commence for year 2020!
