RYAN SKIDMORE

My name is Ryan Skidmore and I’m a Stage 1 Computing student running to be your School Rep for the School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics.

Having been the SoCEM School Rep for the past 5 months, I know the role and if re-elected you can count on me to deliver on my promises. Since becoming a school rep, I’ve gained a unique insight into what the role requires as well as listening to any concerns brought to me by students, course reps or academic staff and doing everything I’m able to in order to resolve any issues.

If re-elected this year, I aim to do the following:

  1. Hoodies: One of the most common requests I’ve had is hoodies for the school and it’s something I’ve been working hard on for the past 5 months. We’re almost there – everything is ready to go and the school has agreed to cover part of the cost. We hope to make order forms available in the next two weeks!

  2. Student Representation: I plan on introducing Student Representation during induction week, explaining what course reps are, their role and how to become one as well as making sure every student has their voice heard.

  3. Engaging Students: I plan on actively engaging with students in a number of ways, one of which being a series of workshops/talks aimed at introducing students to new concepts and technology such as VR/AR that they may have not had the opportunity to experience yet.
