Howdy,
The Computer Society (Plym Compsoc) is a student-led community for anyone curious about computing. We explore a wide range of topics, from web development and AI to cybersecurity and beyond.
Whether you're writing your first line of code or building your tenth project, there's a place for you here. You don't need to study computing, and you don't need any experience. We welcome every course and every skill level, and we run projects with complete beginners, so nobody gets left behind.
We aim to LEARN, INNOVATE, and CONNECT!
WHAT WE DO
We run a mix of events throughout the year, so there's something for everyone:
- Workshops and crash courses: Hands-on sessions and multi-week series where you learn by doing. Our machine learning workshop series won us the Creativity and Innovation award for a breast cancer prediction model built by our members.
- Hackathons: Team-based challenges where you build something real, meet new people and discover what you can make in a day.
- Projects: Work with other members on real projects, whatever your starting point. This is the best way to build skills and add something to your CV.
- Collaborations: We team up with other societies to bring computing into new areas and bring different students together.
- Career and internship support: Advice, insights and opportunities to help you take your next step into the industry.
- Socials: Games nights, movie nights, pizza nights. Computing is better with friends, and so are pizzas!
We're proud to have been recognised with the Best New Society award, and we're always looking for more members to help us keep growing.
