Student Reps Attend Roundtable in Bristol

Written by: Charlie Atkinson, VP Education

On the 29th of November the Part-Time Postgraduate Taught Office, Tonari, your School Representative for Biomedical Sciences, Rimsha, and I, your VP Educationtook part in a Roundtable in Bristol.

The Roundtable was part of a larger piece of work being undertaken, which is ‘Careers 2032: Imagining Future Careers Services.’ Some of the questions which were discussed included covering what has been successful within both the University and Students’ Union in regard to careers and employability, areas in which Career Services and Students’ Union could better serve students, as well as a discussion as to what students would like to see from a Careers Service.

"My experience at the roundtable gave me the opportunity to learn from the vast wealth of knowledge from different representatives present.

As the postgraduate taught representative I could see the need for PGT representation in the student union to ensure that all postgraduate taught students felt included and engaged in services that Plymouth university Careers offer now and in the future.

I hope that the PGT students at the university will reach out to me in communicating what areas they want to see improvement within the present careers services offered."

- Tonari Arikekpar, PGT Part Time Officer

The Roundtable was attended by student reps from Students’ Unions across the South West.

Events like these are a great opportunity for us to share what is happening here in Plymouth, as well as learn from what is going on around the country, to improve what we can offer.

As one of my manifesto points is to focus on student development while studying at Plymouth, having the opportunity to take part in conversations like this was amazing! The ideas which came up in conversation will help me to focus on what I can do, and will hopefully make a difference for students at Plymouth.
