University of Plymouth Archery Club extend their lead following the Plymouth SWWU

homepage

On the 24th November, the University of Plymouth Archery Club hosted the Plymouth leg of the SWWU (South Wales and West University Archery League) competition at Lipson Academy. This is only the second time Plymouth have hosted a SWWU event, and it is something they hope to continue doing in the future. There were 23 of the University of Plymouth Archery Club members attending this competition, alongside similar numbers from Exeter and Bristol universities.

Building on from their exceptional performance at Swansea SWWU in October, they extended their lead at the top of both the experienced and novice non-compound leagues, with strong wins in both and came away with a whopping 14 medals (8 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze), from individual and team events combined.

Emma King, (University of Plymouth Archery Club Chair) said:

"It was a hugely successful day, and wouldn't have been so successful if it wasn't for the amazing organisational skills of our members (Joe Tripp, Lonja Selter, Amy Roberts, Kerry Marks, Charlie Semmens, Alex Rowe, and Eloise Hepburn) and for the rest of our members who assisted in setting up and down all the equipment."

Joe Tripp, (University of Plymouth Archery Club Captain) said:

"Our archers showed exceptional technique and competition etiquette while shooting alongside Bristol and Exeter's archers, which was rewarded with huge amount of medals. All in all it was a fantastic day"

Newquay Bowmen Competition

Congratulations must also go out to three members of the Archery Club who competed in the Newquay Bowmen Competition last month. Emma King, Joe Tripp and Kerry Marks competed in St Austell on the 17th November, participating in three different categories: Ladies Longbow, Men's Recurve and Ladies Recurve. Both Emma (longbow) and Joe (recurve) came first place in their categories, bringing home two trophies and two medals. Joe retained his first place position that he had achieved the year before at the same competition, as well as nearly beating the county record (he was only 10 points away!)

Emma King, (University of Plymouth Archery Club Chair) said:

"Despite only having a few members attend this competition, we did really well to bring home two trophies!  It was a fun day, and we're all looking forward to the next competition."

Started in 1986, the University of Plymouth Archery Club is a student run target archery club welcoming people of all experience levels, from total beginner to experienced. They shoot Friday 18:30-21:30 and Sunday 10:00-13:00.

Unfortunately they are no longer accepting new members for this year and they won't be running another beginner's course until September/October 2020 - but they are hoping to run some taster sessions throughout the year, so follow them on social media to stay updated.
