UPSU host Regional Swimming Championships

On Sunday 29th November the University of Plymouth Students’ Union (UPSU) in partnership with Plymouth University and the Life Centre will welcome 200 students from 30 different institutions around the South of England to compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Regional Team Championship Qualifiers.

They will be competing in 12 different events over the day to see who will qualify for the Team Championship finals which will be held in Sheffield in April next year.

UPSU Vice President of Sport Matthew Dark said:
“I’m very proud that we are hosting this amazing event for the first time in Plymouth, bringing student swimmers from an array of institutions to compete in the great facilities we have here in Plymouth. This is the first time Plymouth University has entered a team in 6 years and we are really looking forward to taking part on our home turf.”

Professor Richard Stephenson, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Experience at Plymouth University, said:
“I am delighted that Plymouth University is hosting, through our excellent partnership with UPSU, this major regional BUCS event. The championships provide a great opportunity to showcase the fantastic sports facilities that Plymouth has to offer whilst enabling our students to compete against the very best swimmers in the region. I’m sure it will be a superb event and we wish all competitors the very best of luck.”

The Lord Mayor and a number of senior University and UPSU staff will be watching some of the country’s top swimmers compete on the day.
