On the 15th of October, UPLAX went to Nottingham with both a Men’s and a Women’s team to participate in the BUCS 6s tournament.

Sean Paton, Men's 1st team captain, shared with us an overview of this BUCS tournament and the team's overall success...

"Both teams were in high spirits after the exceptionally long journey up from Plymouth.

The men had only managed to bring along 3 subs for this high-paced day, but we weren’t going to let this stop us!

Our first game was against Bangor where one of our best players James Stansbury got tangled up with one of their players and ended with a very badly injured ankle having to be rushed off to hospital. We continued the game after he had left and ended up with a draw at 3-3.

We then went on to play Loughborough and Liverpool only losing by 1 in each game. We had lost another player to an injury in the second game too, so we only had one sub making things tricky. We lost our last game to an advanced Sheffield side which we took away and had a team chat. As things often are with our team, we are heavily underestimated, and we wanted to use this to fuel us into the knockout rounds.

We dominated the first game against Bangor winning 7-3 putting us into the semi-finals!

We then played Loughborough and were drawn 2-2 at the end of the game. They thought they had won so were celebrating which ended quickly when the referees called the captains to discuss overtime. We were in complete control in the first half with their goalie keeping them in the game.

In the second half, Jacob Stevenson neatly put one in the back of their net winning us the game and putting us into the final.

The final was played after a short 10-minute break against Swansea. The game was tough and required everyone to dig deep and use all the energy left. At the half, we were drawn with Swansea 3-3 in a very close battle. Swansea went 1 up within minutes of the half-beginning but that only spurred the lads on to fight back.

We had a boost of energy when James returned from hospital to be on the sidelines to help coach us into a victory of 8-4.

We took the Gold in the Shield taking home silverware and a gold medal each to add to our collections.

The boys were ecstatic and over the moon that we had achieved gold yet again despite all odds of having 1 substitution out of the 6 allowed, multiple injuries and back-to-back matches. We continue to surprise teams with our performance and technical talent within our squad.

Again, I am so proud of my team!"
