UPLAX Women's 2nd Team play their first friendlies of the year against Exeter

homepage

Last month the University of Plymouth Ladies Lacrosse Second Team played their first friendlies of the year against Exeter's Development Team.

None of the team have ever played in any competitive BUCS games and over half of the team are completely new to the sport - having never played lacrosse before September this year!

To prepare for these friendlies the team has shown incredible commitment with roughly 30 members turning up to training every single week. They've also been holding theory sessions so that each team member could learn the rules and get a better understanding of the sport.

After such hard work, the co-captains (Lysette Arthur and Phoebe Clarke) wanted to give them an opportunity to play in their first lacrosse fixtures. Despite a lot of nerves and excitement, the team really enjoyed the experience and came away having learned a lot.

The team have already had more requests to arrange friendlies and they're looking forward to taking the team to their first tournament in the new year!

Lysette Arthur (2nd Team Co-Captain) said:

"Phoebe and I are incredibly proud of their progress not only in their individual lacrosse skills, but how they have developed as a team in such a short time. These games were a huge achievement considering so many players were complete novices less than 2 months ago, they all have huge potential that I look forward to developing"

Phoebe Clarke (2nd Team Co-Captain) said:

"They developed more advanced skills through the games such as working a double team"

Harriet Dicks (2nd Team player) said:

"So good for learning rules and for becoming a stronger team together"

Alice Jones (2nd Team player) said:

"Communication in the team was really good on the pitch"

The University of Plymouth Lacrosse Club welcomes all abilities and most new members have never played the sport before. Founded in 2008 they are entering their eleventh year as a club and tenth as a competitive force in the British Universities and College Sport leagues.

The Ladies teams train on Mondays and Saturdays and play BUCS matches on Wednesdays (training on Wednesdays when there is no match). The Men’s teams play on Wednesdays and train on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The whole club meet up every Wednesday night for their weekly socials.
