On Friday 8th of December 2023, the University of Plymouth Dance Club (UPDC) performed their Christmas Showcase in the Levinksy Hall (RLB) to raise funds for their chosen charity: BEAT Eating Disorders, supported by the Musical Theatre Group (MTG) who helped with the lighting and sound.

Student group members shared with us an overview of their successful showcase and money raised for charity...

In total we raised £1,307 at the event through ticket sales and a raffle, with £710 going to our chosen charity BEAT Eating Disorders.

"BEAT is close to our hearts, as many dancers grew up in negative body image environments, with some suffering from EDs [eating disorders]. We are thrilled to be able to support a cause that helps people struggling with these disorders."

Members of the University of Plymouth Dance Club, including the committee, have been working hard to prepare for the showcase since early October to ensure they put on an incredible show to all those in attendance and raise as much funding as possible.

Everyone worked really hard, particularly the coaches for choreographing multiple numbers and the events team for ensuring things ran smoothly!

Members shared that they sold out of tickets for the Christmas showcase in "record time", which only spurred them on to further prepare to dance in front of a full audience!

"The audience gave us amazing feedback - they left feeling entertained!", UPDC shared.

Shoutout to the tech team from the Musical Theatre Group (MTG) for their help with lighting and sound!

UPDC President, Abbie, and Vice President, Niamh shared how proud they are of all the dancers who performed for the show: "they all danced their hearts out and looked great on stage!"
