The Nursing Society hosted a Winter Masquerade Ball to raise money in memory of Claire Chick.
The ball was open to members of the Nursing Society, Nursing Students and other students, members of the wider Plymouth University community and public. It provided an opportunity to come together for a night of music, glamour, dancing and fun in commemoration of our late lecturer Claire Chick and to raise money for the Claire Chick Fund.
Claire was a dedicated nurse and a passionate advocate for student nurses, always championing opportunities and supporting the next generation of the profession.

With the support of her family, friends, and colleagues, the Claire Chick Nursing Fund will continue Claire’s legacy by supporting student nurses. It will provide travel bursaries, support for those facing financial or personal hardship, and other vital assistance to ensure that all nursing students — regardless of background or circumstance — can make the most of their education and go on to make a difference in our communities.
Claire believed deeply in the difference nurses make in the world, and we know she would be proud to see this work continue in her name, NurSoc were honoured to be approached by members of the faculty to throw an event to raise money for this worthy cause.
With the support of the SU Societies and Operations teams, we threw an amazing event in the SU Big Room, with live music from Cornish student band The Taken plus a feel-good DJ set to end the night. Fellow student Reece Foster, from 040photography, took photos. There was also a best dressed competition where the winner received a £20 LovePlymouth card.
NurSoc were thrilled with the support and are proud to announce we raised £1000 for the Claire Chick fund. They would like to thank everyone involved with the event and all the members and students who attended, they couldn't have raised this money without them.
Throughout the night there was a memory book where people could right their thoughts and messages to Claire- here are a some of the messages:
- Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us. You are my motivation to carry on. We will miss you. Rest in Peace Dr Claire Chick.
