Terms & Conditions

General

1. Acceptance to the SU Gym is based on the agreement to the terms and conditions of use.

2. Use of the facilities and all leisure equipment and amenities thereof is permitted entirely at the user’s own risk and users must satisfy themselves that they have taken all reasonable precautions including adhering to the health commitment statement. The SU Gym will not be liable for any losses suffered, or personal injury to any user, except where such losses or injuries are directly attributable to the negligence of the SU Gym and its agents. In that event, the SU Gym will not be liable for the consequential loss, however caused.

3. All users are required to adhere to the Gym code of conduct, this includes wearing non marking soles in the sports hall and squash courts; wearing clean and appropriate kit. Users who are not adhering to the code of conduct may be asked to leave. No refunds will be given in this instance.

4. The SU Gym or an individual facility may be closed due to bad weather, or any unforeseen circumstance outside of our control. For specific functions, bank holidays, or programmed repair, alterations and maintenance notices will be displayed in advance, where possible. No refund to the membership fee, even part, will be given in these circumstances.

5. If your card is lost, damaged or stolen you will need to report it to the University to obtain a new card. You must notify the SU Gym when you receive your new card so it can be entered on our database. For non-university members there is a cost of £7.50 for a replacement card.

6. You must use all equipment and facilities in the appropriate manner and give due regard to your own safety and others.

7. Users of the SU Gym must leave all bags and outdoor clothing in the changing room lockers provided. Failure to use the lockers provided and all items left unattended will be removed immediately by a member of staff. The SU Gym does not accept any responsibility or liability for any damage to, or loss of any property/articles left, or placed in or on the facilities, or any part of the facilities, by the user.

8. No photography, video cameras or any other media storage devices may be used on the premises, without prior consent from the SU Gym management.

9. We reserve the right to refuse access to the facilities if you act in a way that may cause offense or distress to others; or that in our opinion, presents a risk to a persons’ health, including your own; or if you fail to use any of the equipment safely or properly, or as instructed to by our staff. No refunds will be given in this instance.

10. The SU Gym reserves the right to refuse admission, to suspend or cancel any membership.

11. The SU Gym reserves the right to amend or introduce any rules necessary, to ensure the financial viability and the safe and efficient operation of the sports centre.

12. The SU Gym may run special promotions or offers in tandem with its usual membership scheme.

13. Guests wishing to use the facilities must fill in a membership form and agree to our Health commitment statement before taking part in any class or using the Gym.

14. All gym users should check in at reception before using the facility.

15. Personal trainers not employed by UPSU are not permitted to carry out training sessions for clients in our facility.

Membership

1. The SU Gym reserves the right to withdraw or cancel any membership, if in the opinion of SU Gym staff, any member breaks or breaches terms and conditions or the SU Gym code of conduct.

2. Memberships are non-transferable. Misuse of cards will result in a suspension of that member for a period of 30 days. After this suspension if it occurs again the membership will be cancelled with no refund given.

3. If we cancel your membership, you will still be liable to pay any membership fees for the minimum term given.

4. Membership cancellations or the freezing of memberships are only considered if you leave university employment or have a medical condition or illness that prevents you from using the facilities. In the case of an illness a note from a GP or medical professional will need to be submitted to the SU Gym. Any refund will be on a pro-rata basis, agreed by the SU Gym manager.

5. Members are required to inform the SU Gym of any changes in their personal details including any changes to their physical health, as per the heath commitment statement.

6. Membership payments can be made by cash or card at the SU Gym reception, or through the SU Gym website. University staff can opt to pay for an annual membership through salary sacrifice.

7. We review our membership fees annually. Any changes to our fees will generally apply from the 1st of September each year.

8. The last entry to the gym is 30 minutes before the stated closing time. Members who arrive after this time will be refused entry.
