Join us for this welcome week taster session, where we will introduce the concepts used as part of the Debate Society.
Each week we debate four topics that are submitted and voted for by our members using the Westminster system of proposition and opposition.
Motions take the form of either THB (this house believes) or THW (this house would) and each motion takes the floor for 15-30 minutes depending on the level of engagement on each motion.
As an example, typical motions might look like these:
- THW increase the legal drinking age.
- THB fox hunting is immoral.
- THB Brexit fundamentally harmed the quality of life in the UK.
- THB Star Trek is better than Star Wars.
All University of Plymouth students are welcome, across any stage of study or subject area.

for example webpages, social media or flyers. If for whatever reason, you or a member of your group, do not wish to be photographed, please make yourself known to staff working at the event on arrival or to the photographer.
