Introducing the University of Plymouth Orienteering Club (UPOC)!
An outdoor adventure sport, orienteering involves running and navigating with a map and compass to aim to complete a course as quickly as possible. Choose your route, encounter challenges, find checkpoints and discuss with friends at the finish!
We run through terrain in areas like Dartmoor, sand dunes, forests of every kind, parkland, towns, cities, and many more.
As a new club, we’re excited to explore Devon and beyond, with regular navigation training in stunning scenery. We’re here to help you learn and practice the basics of navigation, a priceless life skill, as well as join a community in what is a new and unheard-of sport for many!
Schedule:
Weekly social runs joint with the Athletics Club
Weekly navigation training on a Wednesday afternoon
Travel to events at least once a month
Weekly social events, such as:
- Pasta and board game nights
- Group day hikes to areas like Dartmoor or along the South West Coast Path.
- Mount Edgecumbe parkrun + picnic trips
- Long runs around stunning local areas like Saltram
We're looking forward to the year ahead and all the adventures it'll bring. We hope to see you there! If you have any questions about the club, please feel free to contact our committee on the UPOC Instagram (@uop.orienteering).
