Jiu Jitsu

Please log in to join this organisation.

Want to make great friends, learn essential self defence skills, build confidence, and get fit in the process? Then join Jiu Jitsu!

Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which combines throwing, locking and striking to create an effective form of self-defence, no matter your size or ability! Whether you are looking to learn self-defence, improve your fitness, meet new people or are simply curious then come along and find out.

Regardless of your starting ability, you will soon be putting on wrist locks, rolling, throwing people, and much more!  We tailor the sessions to suit individual needs and provide a safe environment for anyone who joins.

Covid 19 measures

Due to these uncertain times we as a club have had to change how we normally run training. For the foreseeable future training will be limited to 6 participants per session as well as being socially distanced. However bringing along housemates can mean you can learn close contact moves with each other. These measures are subject to change based on SU and government guidelines.

Sessions are held at Pitts Memorial Hall (opposite Robbins Hall of Residence) and Central park.

Give It A Go Sessions:
Thursday 19th September, and Monday 23rd September

Regular Sessions:

Monday: 20:00 - 22:00 at Pits Memorial Hall.

Wednesday: 13:00 - 16:00 At Central Park.

Thursday: 18:00 - 20:00 at Pitt's Memorial Hall.

The first 2 sessions are FREE so you can try before you buy! Sessions are £4 each but there is a heavily discounted termly payment and an opportunity to pay yearly.

Joining our society costs just £2! With an additional £30 to cover insurance.

Events and Socials

It’s good to get to know the people you’re training with! That’s why we socialise after every session and have regular socials throughout the year.

Each year there are two national events that the club attends: Atemis and Randoris. At these events, Jitsu clubs from all over the country gather to train, compete and socialise for a whole weekend. With training from some of the Foundation's most experienced instructors and with upwards of 800 people on the mats. It is always an amazing weekend of intense training, competing (not to mention winning) and mega partying!!! We also have a Jitsu Summer School held in Newquay, Cornwall, where we all get to camp out, socialise, train, and hit the beautiful beach for a weekend!
