What course are you studying?

Business Management Foundation/ SU President

What stage of your course are you currently studying?

What motivated you to run for a Sabbatical Officer role and why do you think you would be a good Sabbatical Officer?

I was the first in my family to go to university and, like so many students, I faced many barriers in my journey to be here. Uni is challenging in many ways but I want the university experience to be as incredible as it should be for every student, no matter your journey to get here. I was welfare officer in first year, SU President this year, and now I want to focus on improving student wellbeing through this role. I want to be your VP Wellbeing and Diversity and I know that I will do it well.

Why is the Sabbatical Officer role important?

The sabbatical officer role is much more important than people notice; they are the strongest student voice and represent 18,000+ students to external businesses and to high up university boards. A good Sabbatical team can entirely change the direction of the university experience.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Passionate, Determined, Ambitious

If you could change one thing about the University, what would that be?

I want the university to have a better rounded approach. University isn’t just about the degree, it’s about safe and affordable accommodation, it’s about a good sustainable environment, it’s about mental health support during studies, it’s about networking with the wider city and community, and it’s about staying happy and healthy in your time here.

If you could change one thing about the Students' Union, what would it be?

I want the work of the Student Union to be better promoted and more transparent. I want students to know who sabbatical officers are, what they do, and to really notice the difference that they can make. Students deserve the best and I want them to see it this year through educational and celebratory events, student safety, better mental health support, cost of living support, and every other campaign, big or small.

Who do you draw most inspiration from and why?

I draw my inspiration from my friends; they are artists and activists and students and teachers and icons. They live fearlessly and work to improve their little corner of the world with kindness. I strive each day to do the same.

What is your proudest moment so far and why?

Winning President. Flatmates, coursemates, and friendly faces on SU club nights all showed so much support and I am grateful that so many people believed in me. I had countless nominations and a phenomenal 33 endorsements. I have had an incredible year completing my manifesto points; running events from tackling racism talks to LGBT+ wellbeing fairs, sitting on university boards, working on the community larder, and more. I am so proud to have been your president.
