An article from before the 'New Normal'

In aid of University Mental Health Day coming up in the following week (5th March 2020), members of the University of Plymouth Yaught Club went to Mount Edgcumbe to reflect on the importance of mental health and experience the positive effects of doing physical exercise and a having a good meal with friends.

It turned out to be a really great event where the members the club were reminded of the enormous benefit of doing something so simple in their weekend.

Members left, full of good food and positivity so they were ready for the busy week ahead. The weather even held out, even though there was a small hail storm, the rainbows at the end of the walk definitely made it worthwhile.

"It's been great to do something different for a change"

"Its been good to get away"

"Can't believe this is so close!"

"I'd definitely be up for doing walks like these more regularly""

Members of UPYC

This success has encouraged the club to run more days out like this in the near future and the club now endeavours even further to promote the simple acts of physical exercise and eating well towards good wellbeing and mental health.

Need some support?

With our mental health being tested in these unprecedented times, we all need to look after each other and ourselves.

Exercise releases chemicals like endorphins and serotonin that improve your mood. It can also get you out in the world, help to reduce any feelings of loneliness and isolation, and safely put you in touch with other people.

If you exercise regularly, it can reduce your stress and symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, and help with recovery from mental health issues.

It can also improve your sleep, which is important in many different ways.

More Information on exercise and how it can help your mental health from 'Mind' here.
