Hello, everyone, it's us again - your Sabbatical team. We just wanted to let you all know about the COVID Hardship Fund which has been relaunched by the University. This is different to the normal COVID Hardship Fund.
A bit of background, the Government has given each University money to spend on students who may be facing hardship during the coronavirus pandemic. I proposed that this money on behalf of the Students' Union and on behalf of the student body that this money be used on hardware such as laptops, data, Wi Fi and rent. The Hardship Fund launched on Monday the 11th January and closes on 19th March.
All students enrolled on courses at level four or above and who are facing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic are eligible to apply. This includes undergraduate postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students as well as home students, EU students and international. Students studying at our Partner Colleges of the University are not eligible to apply for this fund, but should contact their college for financial hardship advice or support.
The COVID Hardship Funds will consider awards for the following reasons: rent, lack of technology available to access remote learning, lack of employment or income or any other unexpected costs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. These awards will be made on a case by case basis.
The amounts you can receive are as follows:
- Level one - if you are under 25, you can receive up to £500
- Level two - if you are over 25 or part of a couple up to £650
- Level three - if you have dependent children up to £800
These amounts may be considered as more or less at the University's discretion.
