The University of Plymouth Yacht Club were once again invited to compete in the European University Sailing Cup in Cherbourg, France.

From the 11th – 15th March, 27 teams from 24 Universities across Europe took part in a day of training before three days of racing in fleets of nine.

Plymouth University’s Team was made up of:
Matthieu Lardy - Helm/Skipper
Sophie Lees - Main trim
Chloe Reading - Trim
Adam Forbes - Trim
Erin Doody – Bow

Due to crew illness, the team had only trained together once, and were competing against teams who had been racing together for years which was no easy feat.

A different team attends each year in order for everyone to get the experience at a highly competitive event, to improve their racing ability.

While the team didn’t do as well as they’d hoped, they persevered and worked together to make sure they never gave up. Things didn’t always go to plan during racing, but the team supported each other and made sure to talk things through afterwards.

Throughout the competition, they improved and by the end of the week were working well together as a team. They competed hard and made the other teams fight to beat them around the course.
