On the weekend of the 14th-15th of June 2025, three members of the University of Plymouth Archery Club travelled to Lilleshall to compete at the BUCS Outdoor Championships. Members shared with us an overview of the competition and their teams success...

"During the WA 720 qualification round on Saturday, Marilyn seeded 1st and alumni KT seeded 6th in the Barebow Experienced Women's category, whilst Corey seeded 17th in the Compound Experienced Men's category.
In a WA 720 round, Barebows shot at a 122cm target face from 50m away, and Compounds at a 6-zone 80cm target face (actual size is about 48cm across). Recurve and Longbow archers would shoot at a 122cm target face from 70m, like in the Olympics.
Next up was the Head-To-Heads. Marilyn won her first two matches with 6-0 wins, before losing in the semi-final and bronze medal matches 4-6 and 2-6 respectively, placing 4th in the Head-To-Head event. KT also won their first match in straight 6-0 sets before being knocked out in a 2-6 defeat, placing 6th. Corey won his first Head-To-Head 128-115 before also being knocked out in the 1/8 matches by the first place seed.
On the Sunday, we shot a WA 900 round. The WA 900 round consists of shooting 90 arrow on a 122cm target face: 30 arrows each at 60m, 50m and 40m. Marilyn placed 2nd with a score of 572, just one point behind 1st place! KT scored 487, placing them in 6th place again. In the Compound category, Corey scored 799 placing in 13th place.
This gave Marilyn enough event points to claim the overall silver medal!"

BUCS Outdoors is the most fun competition of the outdoor archery season. Outside of the competitive nature of the event, it's a chance to catch up with other archers that we often only see at these national-level Student Archery events. We had people that we met at BUCS Outdoors in the previous year - that we haven't seen since - come and support our archers during Head-To-Head matches showcasing the community that archery can create.
