Semester Two Update from your SoBMS School Rep!

Semester 2 has certainly been a busy one, but has been so rewarding as I’ve contributed to the completion of lots of projects and got to meet and work with so many amazing students! The semester started with the official introduction of Subject Representatives into SoBMS, who oversee the representation process for their whole course, acting as a go-between between Course Reps and the School. This has really helped to streamline the feedback process so I am hugely grateful to all of my Subject Reps for facilitating this! I have continued meeting with Head of School, Dr Richard Preziosi, which has been great as it has allowed me to work very closely at the top of the School on issues, and Richard has been incredibly receptive. I facilitated student contributions to the Discovery Week calendar, and am really pleased to see that people have been receiving the programme well. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to let me know that they have felt the benefits of this!

After developing work within the School on Generative AI last Semester, Ken Kingston delivered AI sessions and workshops to all stages and courses. Student feedback from this has been really helpful, and both the School and I are still very keen to hear student thoughts on AI use and policy within the School, so it can continue to be improved. I continued to attend Faculty and School meetings, as well as some stage and programme meetings, which allowed me to get a better idea of the issues and thoughts students are having and sharing. I’ve also been working closely with Krupa (Faculty Rep), Noah (SoGEES rep) and his predecessor Adam, and Maria (SECaM rep), to develop projects and share ideas, as we have a lot of overlap within our Faculty.

I can’t believe my time as School Rep, and at Plymouth, is coming to an end; it feels like I only just started! Thank you so much to everybody at the University and the SU who has supported me this year, and to all the students who have supported me with projects, provided feedback, and made this role hugely rewarding and enjoyable. We have an incredible community of people within SoBMS, and I feel very proud to have represented it this year.
