Events Technical Assistant

• Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week (1665 hours per annum) 
• Salary: Grade A– £24,924 to £27,953 per annum (FTE) depending on experience.

We are looking for a proactive Events Technical Assistant to join our team and help us deliver on this mission.

This is a hands-on and varied role where you’ll support the technical delivery of UPSU events, from live performances and student showcases to major events such as Welcome Week and the Summer Ball. You will play an important part in ensuring our venues and equipment are safe, well-maintained and event-ready, while also supporting student staff and contributing to smooth and professional event experiences.

• To assist the Operations team in the successful delivery of UPSU events and activities.

• To support the technical setup, maintenance, and smooth running of equipment and venues.

• To ensure services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and safely, in line with UPSU’s mission and values.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the technical setup and delivery of UPSU events, including sound, lighting, and staging.

• Assisting with the organisation and oversight of student staff and part-time technical crew.

• Maintaining and monitoring an asset register for technical equipment.

• Ensuring technical areas are kept safe, tidy, and in working order.

• Supporting student-led groups with their social and showcase events.

• Helping to deliver UPSU’s flagship events, such as the Summer Ball and Welcome.

• Contributing to commercial activities related to equipment and venue use.

• Complying with Health & Safety legislation and UPSU’s policies at all times.

We are looking for someone who is:

• Organised and adaptable, with good communication and teamwork skills.

• Interested in the technical side of live events (experience with sound or lighting equipment is a plus!).

• Comfortable working under pressure and using their initiative.

• Willing to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, during major events.

• Enthusiastic about creating amazing experiences for students.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent).

• Experience working in events, technical operations, or customer-facing roles (student or professional).

• A willingness to undertake First Aid and other relevant training (provided if not already held).

• A genuine passion for supporting students and live events.
