Hi! I’m Adrienne Solon and I want to be the women’s part time officer so I can contribute to making Plymouth University a place where women and non-binary students feel safe and proud to attend.
I plan on doing this by working alongside the No Means Rape campaign. I want to support this by encouraging students to identify and confront sexual harassment on and around campus.
In effort to improve the feeling of safety on campus, I want to continue the SU’s efforts to implement free self-defence classes for female and non-binary students.
I want to work with the SU to celebrate and further the representation of women and NB students. During the month of International Women’s Day I plan on getting the support of the SU so I can host a variety of events for female and femme presenting students. My ideas include conferences, quizzes, and a formal evening event in the style of a Sadie Hawkins Dance.
I think it’s important, especially for ethnic minority women and NBs, for Plymouth Uni to show that they are proud of their students. I want to demonstrate the great people that go to our uni who may be overlooked in other situations.
I would also want to implement a scheme for women and NB STEM students. Working in such a male dominated environment can be hard and stressful. After speaking to female STEM students I want to set up sessions with volunteer female graduates that students can attend and share their experiences in order to help one another. Alongside this I think it is really important that women who are successful in male dominated fields are celebrated and brought forward.
