Hi, my name is Charly Beeson, and I am running of the position of VP Activities because I would like to encourage positive change and ensure students have the opportunity to optimise their university experience.

I have experience working within the SU, as the intramural administrator and have developed the following skills that I believe make me the ideal candidate: problem solving, leadership, communication and event management. I currently hold committee positions on two societies, which have given me the opportunity to work closely with students and the SU, expressing concerns, organising events and keeping an open channel of communication.

If elected I would endeavour to:

  • Promote current services available to students to encourage their participation in Clubs, Societies and volunteering opportunities, to feel more welcome and included.
  • Hold meetings each semester with societies and clubs to maintain clear lines of communication and feedback.
  • Set up a monthly online feedback service and drop in sessions each semester for students to share their thoughts and improvements on events around the university to explore how they can be developed.
  • Seek new initiatives for students to encourage a positive impact on the local community, through more volunteering opportunities and development projects.
  • Distribute up to date ways in which as a University we can become more sustainable and reduce waste.
  • Promote mental health and wellbeing projects such as the BARS project to reduce loneliness and stress.

I think these aims will have a positive impact on students as they will create a welcoming and inclusive university experience, improving their mental health by helping them find their identities and support them through the difficulties of university life.

Thank you for reading my manifesto, please do not hesitate to contact me to ask questions about my ideas.
